Quality Pedigree Galloway Cattle
Nestling in the North of the Isle of Man, the ground at Ballavair is at sea level, mainly sandy and free draining and although the winter climate is mild and wet, the East wind coming off the sea can be bitterly cold.
Not the usual home terrain for Galloways you may think, but we have been delighted how our pedigree herd has thrived in these coastal conditions.
"We began converting our herd from continental cross breeds to Galloway cattle in 2007."
Since that time the herd has grown and the young stock are matured on the hills and moorland overlooking Ramsey bay.
"From the outset the Galloways have been a success. In comparison to the cross breeds we have found them easy to handle and calve, with less feet problems and no dehorning. They are great milky mothers producing milk up to weaning." "Introducing the Galloway has allowed us to make savings in both time and costs."
